Commercial
Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position.
- A television advertisement or television commercial–often just commercial or TV ad (US), or advert, commercial, advertisement or simply just ad (UK/US), or ad-film (India)–is a span of television programming produced and paid for by an organization that conveys a message.
- The USA's first television advertisement was broadcast July 1, 1941. The watchmaker Bulova paid $9 for a placement on New York station WNBT before a baseball game between theBrooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. The 20-second spot displayed a picture of a clock superimposed on a map of the United States, accompanied by the voice-over "America runs on Bulova time."

Description of Story including conflict: Two young men pursue the same young woman and find ways of getting rid of each other. This video is in black and white and fast motion in a similar style to a Charlie Chaplin film.
Script Outline:
Opening: Two main characters (two men) are walking down the street together. They both spot a lovely young woman at the same time and are obviously taken with her.
Middle: Both young men pursue the young woman and try to win her over. The first man puts his coat down on a puddle for her to cross. The second man pulls the coat away and lays himself over the puddle. She walks across his back and then continues to walk with the first man. The second man chases and hides under a bridge they are standing on. He jumps up on the bridge and whisks her away from the first man. The first man chases after and tackles the second man. The chase scene begins. The second man pursues the first man on foot and comes to a parking lot. He jumps into a van and begins chasing the first man who is still on foot. The first man hops into a box to hide. The second man finds him and gets back into the van and drives over the box. The first man falls out apparently unhurt.
Ending: They begin dueling with umbrellas. Basic slapstick comedy here with completely choreographed cheesy duel. At the height of the fight they both notice another young woman walking past and are obviously taken with her. They begin walking after her. (Circular story)

CHOOSE AN ISSUE
Have students name an issue or message they feel needs to be "PROMOTED" within their community (or possibly globally). They can refer to the questionnaire or you can break them up into small collaborative learning groups and have each group come up with three ideas.
WRITE A SLOGAN
Once each student or group has chosen an issue, have each group create a slogan like "Just do it" or "Crack is Whack". It is best to have the saying be no more than 4 or 5 words. This is really the most difficult part of this project. Most students will simply write down a statement of the issue and be satisfied with it as the slogan. You will need to challenge them. Tell them to reduce it to the least amount of words possible without losing its meaning. Have them rewrite it and exchange certain words with slang words they use everyday.
TAKE PICTURES
At this point you will need a digital camera and a computer with a printer. Most digital cameras will come with the software you’ll need to download pictures. The project at Austin High School was created with a $200. digital camera and 5-year old Macs.
Show students the process of taking pictures, downloading images on computer, and printing the image out.
Discuss with students the expressive qualities of pose and cropping. It is best when working with photography and copy machines to have as much detail as possible. This is why close up shots are preferable. Limit your students to no more than two people in a pose and encourage zooming in even closer than they might feel comfortable with. You should produce teaching samples or find advertising images to show your students how feelings can be expressed using just your hands, eyes, or body language.
When images have been shot and downloaded, encourage students to make choices on-screen before printing and to consider whether each image could be made more dramatic or dynamic by further cropping.
Note: This process of image creation could also be done using traditional photography, found images, copying machine, or stencils if you do not have access to the technology or are not proficient with it. Be creative.
COMBINE IMAGES AND TEXT
The students can type their slogans on a computer and print them out.
Aim for strong, bold compositions.

Have the students compose the two elements in an advertising format of their choice. Do they imagine the final product to be a bus graphic, billboard or magazine ad?

Today you will be creating a personal logo after completing the below assignemnt:
Vam 9/10
The Logo
Definition: an emblem of an organization used in its display material.
The Logo
The logo, often a symbol, is used to help the consumer identify with a particular company. Can you think of any popular logos? Even when we do not see the company name we are associating the symbol to the product.
Logos can be identified into four categories:
1. Logos consisting of symbols (Obama rising sun logo)
2. Logos consisting of a name in a certain style or type (Virgin Mobile )
3. Logos consisting of initials (Droors Clothing footwear)
4. Logos consisting of names or initials with added graphics (skull skates)
Assignment:
1. Using magazines, glue one logo from each category onto a new piece of paper and write down what kind of logo it is.
2. Create your own personal logo. You may choose to represent a company such as: clothing company, beverage, skateboard etc.
* You must have 5 thumbnails and a completed logo.

Thursday!
Hi there! Sorry I will not be in class today, I am going to be in Prince George for an appointment.
I have left an assignment sheet for the substitute teacher and it explains that you will alter my face in Photoshop. I look forward to seeing you blur, smudge and stretch out areas etc. It would be a good chance to work with threshold and colour combinations. Have fun and post the images on the green chalk board so I can see them when I arrive tomorrow. Have a lovely day and be on your best behaviour.

Drawing to music
Good afternoon, today we will begin by using the availble media and drawing to music. I have provided paper. Simply listen to the music and allow your mind to inspire your hand to draw. I will play different genres of music and all just small segments of each song.
Logo update. Below are some of the ideas I sent away and this is the response he sent me:
None of these are what I want, keep trying.

From a local graphic designer:
Here is how I usually handle working on a logo:
-I start off by analyzing the clients wants and needs, in this case he is quite
specific. I have highlighted the areas in his e-mail that I feel are important.
-Next I begin working on ideas from his info, taking into account some of
my own ideas. In addition I will often search the web for related logos - not
to copy anything but to see what looks good and what doesn’t. I will note
certain aspects of designs that I like.
-I usually try to submit several drafts of the logo to find out what the client
likes and dislikes, including different fonts and colors. (I am not to fond of
the above designs, but it gives you an idea of what I am talking about).
-After spending time tweaking and playing around with the drafts I would
submit them to the client. (Keep in mind that although you want to give the
client options, don’t submit too many as this will just overwhelm him. I
usually submit 2 or 3 designs.) Also, make sure you ask the client to reply
about what they like and dislike about the designs as this will help you
narrow down a design that the client will be happy with.
-After receiving feedback from the client I try to round it down to one
design that incorporates all the aspects he liked. Sometimes they love one
of the designs and I am good to go, but sometimes they don’t like any of
them and I have to start all over again.
Hope this helps you out.
P.S. Make sure you always use a vector based program to create your
logos, or else you are going to end up re-creating them again!

VISUAL MEMORY
I will give you a few moments to look at the grid with symbols. You will later recall the objects and see how great your visual memory is.
Custom Kicks
Before the Industrial Revolution, all shoes were handmade. In many cultures, shoes represented one’s social status. Some things have not changed: shoes are still a status symbol today.
New inventions, materials and techniques followed quickly in the twentieth century to the point of mass production. Factories enabled the production of many shoes at low cost. However, these shoes lack personality. This may be the reason we are seeing today a step back into the pre-industrialized era through customizing.
Customized shoes are in
•Customizing is a trend in fashion. Customizing your shoes is a way of stepping out of the crowd and showing your identity.
•Customized shoes star in hip-hop videos, occupy forums on the Internet, and grace the catwalks.
Your canvas will be your shoes:
You can bring your old flip flops, rubber boots, high tops, sneakers, heels.
Where to begin:
•Start with thumbnail sketches.
•Think about design elements and principles.
•Prime the surface of your canvas (shoes)
•Sketch your design
•You can ‘tape off’ areas for spray painting.
•Have fun!
•When completed you will design a shoe box for your shoes.
Criteria
I am looking for:
•Use of elements and principles of design
•Craftsmanship

Good Morning!
Good morning, if you have completed the records and mandala design you will be asked to design a logo for a local company. If our class wins the contest, we will get a movie day with popcorn etc.
The client is from GC Forest Enterprises Ltd. He wants an abstract shape/design that is not typical. He requires you use three colours and use the logo to create a business card template as well.

Graffiti record design:
You will begin by creating graffiti lettering and make thumbnail sketches. Later, you will prime your record (scratched…no classics please) and create the final graffiti.
Use the elements and principles of design and graffiti lettering experience to create a personal message on the record. Play with colour and texture to design a thought provoking and well designed art piece.
